While Andrew and I met as seniors in high school, we didn't start dating until our senior year of college. After dating for three years we got married in 2008 and started our lives together at our home in Columbia, SC along with our neurotic yellow lab, Cooper. I teach second grade, Andrew works for a software company and Cooper takes long naps in the sunshine and chases squirrels.
This past spring our yet-to-be-born baby girl, Adeline, was diagnosed with a double outlet right ventricle and other congenital heart defects. After months of worry and meeting with various specialists we have temporarily relocated to Charleston, SC so Adeline can be born and receive care from MUSC Children's Hospital, one of only a few hospitals in the US with a dedicated pediatric cardiac care team and intensive care unit.
This blog tells our story as we're preparing for the road as parents to a baby with a congenital heart defect and will document Adeline's entry into the world and various surgeries.
